Astronaut Entertainment (ASTENT) is a small independent game studio founded in Türkiye in September 2019. We build persistent online worlds that offer the same experience on desktop and mobile. Our first project is Ancient Online: Remastered, a classic Eastern fantasy MMORPG we are developing in Unreal Engine 5.8. This post covers who we are, the principles we work by and where we stand today.
Why an MMORPG?
An MMORPG is a place players live in for years: a world where friendships form, guilds are born and effort means something. When we founded the studio, we focused on a single goal: a sustainable MMORPG universe that players will enjoy living in for many years.
That goal shapes most of the decisions we make: a solid foundation over a fast launch, player trust over short-term revenue.
From prototype to production
- Founding (September 2019): Astronaut Entertainment set out with the idea of building a persistent online world.
- Prototype: The first playable prototype took shape under the codename "Project M": rival empires, open-world hunting grounds and item upgrading.
- Foundations and combat: Work focused on how hits feel, on server performance in crowded scenes and on the balance of the in-game economy.
- Announcement: The project was announced as Ancient Online: Remastered, and localization into 18 languages began.
- Today: The game is in full production on Unreal Engine 5.8.
There is no public release date yet. When a date is set, we will share it first on our news page and in our Discord community.
How we work: five principles
- Meaningful content: Only systems that enrich the world and give players real satisfaction go into the game; filler content does not.
- Quality: We do not release unfinished or unbalanced content. A system opens once it has matured and passed testing.
- A persistent world: The player's effort has value. There are no seasonal resets; characters grow through perseverance.
- Sustainable development: A production pace that protects the studio's focus and will keep the game alive for many years.
- Transparent communication: A direct, honest dialogue with the community; patch notes and system changes are shared openly.
No pay-to-win
In no game developed by Astronaut Entertainment can power be bought with real money. The shop only offers costumes, appearances and convenience items — nothing that grants combat power, experience or in-game currency. Rare items, ranks and leaderboard positions are earned in the game. This rule does not bend under revenue pressure; the full text is in the Fair Play Pledge section.
Technology: Unreal Engine 5.8 and our own server
We are building the game client in Unreal Engine 5.8 and the server on C++ technology we wrote ourselves from scratch. Our target is for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS players to meet in the same world; the development build is currently tested on Windows and Android devices.
If you are curious about how we do it, we have two technical posts: part one of the devlog covers the server architecture, and part two covers our cross-platform decisions.
30 languages, one world
Ancient Online: Remastered and its official website target 30 languages: Turkish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian, Czech, Danish, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Ukrainian, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Bulgarian, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian. The aim is for players in every supported region to be able to read, play and get support in their own language.
What comes next?
Our priority is to bring Ancient Online: Remastered to players at the quality it deserves. Alongside that, our R&D on large-scale worlds and server architectures continues, and a second project is in early planning. We will talk about it when there is something real to show.
